Contemporary Workshop – Sunday, November 12, 2023, 3:00 PM
Music Teachers of Hyde Park’s Contemporary Workshop is Sunday, November 12, 2023, beginning at 3:00 pm for one hour in Room 803 in Logan Center 915 E. 60th St. We are pleased to announce that Ilya Levinson is our clinician and the workshop is LIVE. Students playing any instrument are welcome to play. Ilya Levinson will discuss your performance from a composer’s perspective and give a short presentation on an aspect of contemporary music. Students are encouraged* to play a piece from 20th or 21st century since this is a contemporary music workshop. Debussy and Ravel of course included as they lived into the 20th century as did so many more composers! Students of all ages and levels are welcome. (* If from another century they are also welcome to play.)

Chamber Music Day Workshop – February 11, 2024
Chamber Music Day is an experience for students to play with others and receive coaching. It will be held on Sunday, February 11, 2024 from 1:00-4:00 p.m. at Blackstone Library.

Harpsichord Workshop – March 24, 2024
The Harpsichord Workshop will be held on Sunday, March 24, 2024 at 2:00PM in Fulton Recital Hall (in Goodspeed Hall) on the University of Chicago campus. Mr. Andrew Rosenblum will be the facilitator. Each student should prepare a piece of moderate length (3-5 minutes), which he or she will perform first on piano, then on harpsichord.

Concerto Day – Sunday April 28th, 2024
What is Concerto Day?
Concerto Day is an annual gala marathon of MTHP student performances in front of an orchestra. After initial coaching with one of the conductors prior to the event, students perform a concerto movement in an open rehearsal setting. Not only is this a wonderful showcase for MTHP student talent, but Concerto Day is also a rare opportunity for our students to learn how to present repertoire as the composer intended, with the rich sounds of an orchestra supporting the solo line.
The event will take place at the Hyde Park Union Church, like in previous years. The orchestra will consist of a strings chamber orchestra with woodwinds, 2 horns, 2 trumpets and 1 timpani. Teachers should refer to the “suggested repertoire”to choose the concerto.
Two students per teacher and we will add a third student if there is time. Fee is $70.
Here is a list of recommended concertos for this year. Member teachers of instruments not listed can choose appropriate pieces. In any case if there is a concerto you would like your student to perform please consult with the committee.

Performathon Recital
The annual Recital Performathon is a great way to end the year with a student recital! This year it is taking place at the Blackstone Library. Raising money is optional this year. Teachers who join will have a time slot of their own in which to present their own students. Time slots can be tailored to your needs, but are likely to average around an hour.
